Janita Burke is a Partner and member of the Insurance Team within the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group. Janita practises in all areas of corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on non-contentious insurance work and has been involved in the recent insurance developments in the Bermuda insurance market. Janita has a number of Fortune 500 companies as her clients and her practice emphasis include regulation and financing of insurance companies, formation of captive insurance companies, public and private offerings of debt and equity securities and segregated account structures.
Janita is a member of the inter-disciplinary segregated accounts team and was instrumental in amendments contained in the Segregated Accounts Amendment Bill 2002. She has advised on and handled most of the firms insurance segregated accounts registrations and has co-presented on the topic.
Janita was educated in Bermuda, Canada and England. She received her LLB (Hons) from Warwick University in Coventry, England in 1997. In 1998, Janita passed the Legal Practice course at the College of Law, London, joined the group in 1999 and was called to the Bermuda Bar that same year.
Janita is a Board member and immediate past Chairman of YouthNet, a charitable organisation whose mission is to keep students focused and is also a mentor in the programme. Janita has served on government boards and volunteers at the Angle Street Centre Legal Clinic providing free legal advice. Janita is also a member of the Bermuda Insurance Institute Education Committee.
